UTeM’s waste management is a systematic effort to manage and monitor the various types of waste generated across the campus. Effective management is crucial for reducing pollution, minimizing the volume of waste sent to landfills, and preventing health and environmental risks. CENSEi supports this initiative through data monitoring, the promotion of recycling practices, and responsible waste management, aiming to create a clean, safe, and sustainable campus environment.

The Smart Environment Centre (CENSEi) at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) is an entity dedicated to advancing the university's environmental sustainability agenda through a management approach that is systematic, innovative, and driven by smart technology. The establishment of CENSEi reflects UTeM’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability, strengthening environmental governance, and supporting the development of a smart and sustainable campus.
CENSEi’s evolution began in 2014 with the establishment of the Environmental Sustainability Centre (PKA), an initial step by the university to coordinate and strengthen the implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives on campus. PKA laid the foundation for a green campus culture through environmental awareness programs, prudent resource management, and the active participation of the university community in sustainability activities.
In 2020, the centre’s functions and role were expanded through the establishment of the Occupational Safety and Environmental Sustainability Office. This development reflects the university's efforts to strengthen the management of occupational safety and health alongside environmental sustainability in a more integrated manner. This approach emphasizes regulatory compliance, risk management, campus environmental safety, and the implementation of work practices that are both safe and environmentally friendly.
